Simple present tense definition

Simple present tense is defined as the use of a verb to indicate an action in the present that has not been completed. Simple present tense is also used to indicate a general truth or a habitual action which is done regularly. Simple present tense is used by instructors, teachers and professors in assessing English language students. This is because simple present tense forms an important part of tenses that must be used on regular bases in communication. Wrong use of the tenses can alter the original meaning of a sentence which can result to communication breakdown. The fundamental nature of a language is communication regardless of the medium used. When the news caster uses the voice to communicate, he/she expects to be understood. When the reporter or journalists want to communicate, what they put on the media are words which must communicate the intended information to the reader.

Simple present tense applications

Simple present tense is used in English language at all times. Children learn the art of communication at an early stage. What they hear is what they use in the initial or early stages of life. Most of the verbs used in simple present tense are used in early childhood speech development. The child learns how to eat, walk, talk, play and run. These doing verbs are the earliest words that the child learns to use. It is amazing that no much changes in communication after the childhood experience. There are very few vocabularies that are added in communication in the course of life. This makes it important to lay down a good foundation in communication in early childhood. People who take up the English language as a second language later in life experience hitches in language use. The first language of an individual interferes with the learning process especially in words usage and pronunciation. Simple present tense becomes difficult to grasp for adult students. Once the tenses are mastered, it becomes easier to communicate.

Simple present tense in modern language

Simple present tense has been misused in modern times. There is a lot of evolving additions and removal in English language by street talk. Young people from different regions or urban centres have created a language within a language. The street language evolves to serve a specific region. You can hear the words used are English but cannot understand the usage of different words. This has not spared simple present tense. The use of street language is not limited to developing countries only. Even the world economic powers have had to deal with the problem of misuse or evolution of language from the original which is not guided by any rule. Simple present tense has survived together in the English language over centuries. this is because simple present tense and the rules governing English language has been documented. There are custodians of language who exist in every generation to safeguard and protect a language. English language has been passed on for generation with acceptable changes being effected in the language. The importance of simple present tense cannot be ignored in modern English.
